GRADY COUNTY, GA – Two southwest Georgia colleges are partnering to offer more collegiate educational opportunities to Southwest Georgia.

Southwest Georgia Technical College and Albany State University are coming together to help students complete associate degrees at an accredited college.

“We are proud to welcome Albany State University to our Grady County campus. We believe the partnership is evidence of the commitment both institutions have made to the citizens of our region,” said Dr. Craig Wentworth, SWGTC President.

The main goal of the agreement between ASU and SWGTC is to give greater college accessibility for both institutions.

“We are truly excited to offer upper-level courses leading to a baccalaureate degree on the Grady County campus of SWGTC,” said Dr. Everette J. Freeman, ASU President.

Albany State University and Southwest Georgia Technical College are teaming up to offer more students the chance to earn a college education.

This year, on the first day of the fall semester, ASU professors began teaching courses at SWGTC’s Grady County site enabling students to secure a bachelor’s degree.

The partnership between SWGTC and ASU to grant greater college accessibility is a goal for both institutions.

“We are proud to welcome Albany State University to our Grady County campus. We believe the partnership is evidence of the commitment both institutions have made to the citizens of our region. We are grateful to have the resources available to increase the accessibility of higher education in our service areas,” said Dr. Craig Wentworth, SWGTC President.

Currently, ASU provides bachelor degree programs in early childhood education and criminal justice at the Cairo campus.

The curriculum is designed for students who have completed the associate’s degree at an accredited college.

ASU will offer a bachelor’s degree in middle grades education at SWGTC this spring, 2013. 

The deadline to apply for the upcoming spring semester is November 1, 2012.

This new partnership will create more opportunities for individuals to complete college in our region. This agreement is a true testimony to the dedication both institutions have to the betterment of our local economy and accessibility of education to all Georgians,” said Dr. Everette J. Freeman, ASU President.

The courses are offered in the evening, Monday through Thursday at the satellite campus located at 1550 Hwy 84 West, in Cairo, Ga.

Off-Campus Coordinator, Sarah Rogers will work at SWGTC of Grady County to coordinate ASU’s programs and services.
